Adrian Bracken is an Associate Professor of Genetics at Trinity College Dublin. He completed his Post-doctorate in the lab of Kristian Helin (Milan and Copenhagen) publishing several seminal papers on the role of Polycombs Group proteins (Bracken et al, EMBO J, 2003; Bracken et al., Genes & Dev, 2006; Bracken et al., Genes & Dev, 2007, Bracken & Helin, Nature Reviews Cancer, 2009). Since establishing his own research group in 2009, he has continued to investigate the roles of Polycomb group proteins and other chromatin regulators in stem cell differentiation and cancer. Some of the lab's most recent papers include studies on the role of PRC2 and SIN3A complexes in embryonic stem cells (Brien et al, NSMB 2012; Streubel et al., EMBO J, 2017), the role of the tumour suppressor, CHD5, during neurogenesis (Egan et al., Dev Cell. 2013) and a new chromatin independent role of Polycomb-like 1 in the p53 pathway (Brien et al., Genes & Dev, 2015). His seminar will describe his lab’s recent discovery of a new family of vertebrate specific members of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2).
