Stem cell worksheets for teachers

12 April, 2010

In 2010 CRM's and EuroStemCell's communications officers Ingrid Heersche and Emma Kemp have developed a number of worksheets on stem cells. These worksheets are complementary to the very good and extensive classroom resources that are already available (see list below).

The quick & easy to copy worksheets are available in two versions, one for 11-14 year olds and one for 16+ year olds. Worksheets include:

  • Stem cells in the news, a short activity using a real newspaper article to consolidate learning about stem cells and their potential therapeutic value. The news article focuses on stem cell research relating to Parkinson's Disease.
  • Stem cells points of view, a ready-to-use classroom activity for discussion of the ethical issues around stem cell research. Students examine the opinions of up to 6 characters and use these to inform and develop their own views. Includes a short teachers' guide to help with lesson plans.
  • Stem cells what's missing, a 10-minute fill-the-gaps exercise to consolidate key ideas and facts about what stem cells are, what kinds of stem cell exist and why our bodies need them.
  • Stem cell puzzles, 10-minute puzzles to consolidate learning on stem cells.

We have also developed a flexible powerpoint presentation introducing stem cells with easy-to-use slides, packed with useful diagrams and accompanied by jargon-free explanations of key concepts for the presenter.

All the above resources can be downloaded free of charge from the EuroStemCell website.
