MS Society Edinburgh Centre for Translational Research

In 2007 the MS Society and the Volant Trust supported the University of Edinburgh's ambition to set up a research centre dedicated to studying Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The MS Society Edinburgh Centre for Translational Research builds on the University's track record in translational research and relevant disciplines - e.g. neuroscience, inflammation and stem cells.

CRM Director Prof Charles ffrench-Constant and Prof Siddharthan Chandran are leading this centre.

Researchers at the MS Society Edinburgh Centre for Translational Research aim to:

  • build on early laboratory discoveries to understand how myelin repair fails in people with MS
  • work closely with the MS Society Cambridge Centre for Myelin Repair towards clinical trials for myelin repair therapies for people with MS
  • continue early stage research to develop potential therapies for people with progressive forms of MS

The 6 year project is supported by a £2M grant from the MS Society with generous support from the Volant Trust.
