The MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine (CRM) brings together world-leading basic stem cell research and established clinical excellence to deliver a "bench-to-bedside" approach in addressing the challenges posed by degenerative diseases.
Uniquely in the UK, CRM covers the full spectrum of stem cell research - from basic mechanisms of stem cell regulation, via rigorous translational studies that will provide the basis for new therapies, to clinical trials with stem cells and their derivatives. It positions the UK at the forefront of international translational stem cell science at a critical time in the emergence of this exciting field.
CRM brings together into a single highly interactive unit existing groups at the Institute for Stem Cell Research with scientists and clinicians in the University of Edinburgh Medical School who have a proven track record in clinical stem cell research and therapy.
CRM is already one of the largest critical masses of basic and clinical researchers in this area in Europe and, from 2010, will be co-located in a new state-of-the art building on the site shared by the Royal Infirmary and the University Clinical Research facilities.
